Recall

Monday, June 7th, 2010

The Chrysler Corporation has declared the recall of nearly 700,000 vehicles. The first cars on the list are the 2006-2010 models of their Jeep brand. A brake fluid problem is the cause of that recall. There are other cars on the recall list as well. The Dodge Grand Caravans and Chrysler Town & Country models are being recalled due to wiring problems in the sliding doors.

Chrysler says it will notify owners of the vehicles fix them free of charge. I like these “responsible corporations” nowadays who look out for their customers and take responsibility for their products I hope this trend keeps up!

Good People

With me being a prisoner and they being guards, there was little conversation between us. I was a little nervous with anticipation about where I was going, but glad to see some scenery that I had for so long been denied. The trip lasted about six hours and was uneventful except for a stop at a seven eleven.

The guards did not offer to get me anything, which I thought was a little rude. I had known this guard for a year. We weren’t great friends or anything, but we had a casual relationship. After eating jail food for a year, I would have loved to have anything from seven eleven! A slurpee, a hotdog, even the infamous Truck stopper hamburger would have been a singular treat. Nothing! Out of all the things I went through in prison, that one thing always stands out to me as being the most telling of the fact that I was now considered by the “good people” of being “not worth consideration”. Being denied a one dollar hotdog!

ringing the chains

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

After the guard had checked me out, they brought the chains. Looking back, I am glad that at least they locked my hands together in front. There was a chain that ran from my hands down to my feet which were locked into the ankle chains. It’s very uncomfortable, and quite difficult to walk! All thoughts of a timely escape are soon turned to ashes. When all was in readiness, the buzzing sound of the electronic lock rang loudly in my ears and the door was unlocked.

going to recieving

* typically, a prisoner goes to a country or regional jail. once tried and convicted, they are then sent to receiving where they are processed before going on to a state penitentiary.

When I first arrived at receiving, it had already been a long day. I was called out early in the morning to pack up and be ready to leave. I put all my possessions in a plastic tub and said goodbye to my cellmates. I promised to write and to say “hey” to various other people on their behalf. I was taken downstairs and put in a holding cell. After a long wait, they came and got me and took me through the double doors which are always locked.

The double doors are controlled by a guard in a booth. No matter what happens in the jail, the only way in or out is through these doors. Twenty four hours a day, someone sits in the control booth and buzzes people in and out. The guard has maximum visibility through the glass. There is no doubt that to try and break the glass would be futile. I wonder how boring of a person you would have to be to hold the job!
