Memorial Day

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Every year we all look forward to a great holiday. The Memorial Day weekend is a time for picnics and barbeques. It is easy to get caught up in the celebration and forget about how the holiday started. The holiday is for the remembrance and honoring of our nations fallen soldiers.

The holiday was first started by General John A. Logan who was a civil war general. The holiday was then known as Decoration Day and has run continuously until now. I think every American should take a minute to reflect on those who have given their lives to defend our country.

Earth Day

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

The earth is our home and we must all do our part to take care of it. That’s one of the reasons that earth day was started 40 years ago. It was meant to bring attention to the facts about our environment and our impact on it. I believe that the importance of this day will become ever clearer to the millions of people around the world.

Many of the world’s leaders spoke about the issue today and reflected on what the day means to them. Nearly all agreed that we must do a better job of protecting and preserving our environment. I join with thousands of others who believe this issue affects us all and is worthy of profound thought.

April Fools’ Day Jokes

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

With so many people around that are already inclined to be just a little bit anti-social, it’s easy to imagine how many tricks are played between the inmates. It’s especially funny when a joke can be played on one of the many C.O. s that rule our daily lives. In my many years of incarceration, I have seen hundreds of jokes play out. It’s always a relief to have some fun whenever possible. It will always lighten the load for a little while!

The Wolf Moon

Friday, January 29th, 2010

There will be a full moon tonight and it will be a special one. Because it is the first full moon of the year, it is known as the wolf’s moon. This is the name given to it by the Native American Indians who noticed wolves howling at the full moon. There is another reason it will be special, and that is because it is also a perigee moon. A perigee moon is when the moon is closest to the earth in its orbit. The two special combinations of tonight’s moon will make it bright and big.

There is also some speculation that a full moon causes humans and animals to act strangely. While many people believe that strange things happen when the moon is full, there is no proof as of yet. Many studies that have been done have found no correlations between the two. There are still those though who feel that the full moon brings out the worst in human behavior. I guess we’ll have to wait for another study to be done to find conclusive proof.

Welcome Home Phil

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

I was glad to hear that one of my good friends was released last week. Phil and I spent many days discussing the business of the day and we were very close. Phil is a really great guy and I am glad to hear he has finally made it home. Phil is returning to his home state of North Carolina and will be staying with family. I say good luck to you Phil and I hope that you will receive nothing but the best in your new life!
